A destination wedding can be a great adventure and an awesome memory for you and your loved ones who get to be there with you. While planning your destination wedding may have some challenges, with the wording examples here, your invitations can be easily marked off the to-do list.
Unlike your traditional, local wedding, a destination wedding presents different obstacles for the bride and groom. No necessarily difficult, just different. Once you have your location picked out and a date set it’s time to start letting people know about your traveling nuptials. When it comes to destination wedding invitations, there are a few recommended must-haves.

Getting Started On Destination Wedding Invitation Wording And Etiquette
In order to have a destination wedding where you anticipate others attending, you have to give them advance notice. In general to start inviting people to your faraway nuptials, you’ll need three things:
- Save the Date
- Destination Wedding Website

Save the Date for Destination Weddings
Send your save the dates up to a year in advance (and only to the people you KNOW you are going to invite to the wedding). The further out in advance, the better. These save the dates will give your guests time to start planning their trip.
If it’s possible, try to include specific location information, and not just the region you’re going to get married. Include the specific ceremony and reception venues so guests will can know if they’ll be going to the beach, up to the snowy mountains, or perhaps need to update their passport to go abroad.
Keep you save the dates simple. Email them if you need to. Destinations wedding are typically traditional so your save the dates don’t have to be either.
Destination Wedding Website
On your save the dates, it would be best to list your wedding website. A wedding website lets your invitees and guest know any pertinent details about your big day. For destination wedding, they are the go-to resource for your guests’ travel plans.
IF you have a block of rooms reserved, be sure to list that. Any excursions? Put that too. Any travel advice or maybe a main point-of-contact, list it in your destination wedding website.
Creative Destination Wedding Invitation Etiquette
Some couple don’t want/need gifts because they don’t want their guest to incur an additional cost. It’s a little blunt to put “no gifts.” Instead, put “The honor of your presence is the only gift we require”.
Some couples would rather an adults only soiree. This might limit the amount of guests that can come but will ensure your wedding will be how you want it to be. Put “We loves kids but due to space restrictions, we cannot accommodate guests under age 18 on our wedding day. Thank you for understanding.” OR “Please note this will be an adults-only celebration. Thank you for understanding.”
